The Marquette Mustangs Rugby Club was established in 2010 and competed in the MRFU High School league for the first time in the spring of 2011. The first year roster consisted of 33 players from 3 different high schools. 25 of these players were from Marquette Senior High School in Chesterfield, MO.
The Mustangs had a very successful inaugural season, finishing 2nd in their division, resulting in a trip to Jefferson City for the state tournament. 2011 highlights included a 25-10 win over division rivals Jefferson City and a hard fought match in the state tournament against last year’s state champions Eureka High School, which resulted in a 14-10 loss after Marquette had taken a 10-7 lead into half time.
