Saturday September 30th - A family friendly hayride at Warren Stemme's farm at 5:30 pm. This is the only family friendly event for the 40th Anniversary celebration. After our match against the Bombers we will head west to Warren's. There will be pumpkins, hayride, brats, hot dogs, etc. Bring a side dish and a cooler. The address is 165 River Valley Drive, Chesterfield, MO 63017.
Friday, October 6 - Hornet Happy Hour will be held at the Southtown Pub on Kingshighway from 5:30 to 9:30. The Old Boys will be providing drinks and appetizers until the allotted budget is gone. There is no reason to not come out, since it's on the HOBO's. Jim Lutz and Windell Jackson have been working hard to set this up and we will be congregating in the new Southtown owned Rustic Room. We will have it to ourselves and complimentary valet parking will be available.
Saturday, October 7 - The day will begin at with the current Hornet team playing a friendly match at 1 pm versus TBD. This will include a couple 20 minute halves where any Old Boy that wants to get a run in will be able to boot up. There will be a small hosting party by the Hornets after the match and then around 4 pm we will adjourn to the tents set up at Langenberg Field. Please park at the parking lot across from the Visitor Center adjacent to Langenberg. Old Boy Dennis Callier and his catering company is providing the meal. There will be a small amount of Modern Beer available so everyone should pack a cooler. Additionally to supplement the cost we are asking all attending to pay $15 per person. This is ridiculously cheap and should not inhibit anyone from attending. Remember, NO KIDS!! Also, we need to have everyone pay before September 30th so we have a firm head count and know how much food to buy!!! No walk ups!!!! Please send payment to: Chuck Squires, 11007 Rambling Oaks Dr, St. Louis, MO 63128 or pay him in person.
November 10-12 - The Hornet trip to Battleship Tournament is this weekend. I'm sure all of you (both current side and HOBOs) have heard of this by now. It should be a great time and trip. The Old Boys portion of the tournament is only on Saturday November 11. It's an over 35 tournament so there will be some feisty sides. We absolutely need to get a head count of the number of Hornet Old Boys that plan on traveling and play. More than likely we will need to subsidize our team with other players. Please contact Chris Trotter and Jim Henson if you are going to play. This is a must because if we need to recruit additional players it needs to be done very soon. Jim Henson has set up lodging with: http://www.marriott.com/meeting-event-hotels/group-corporate-travel/groupCorp.mi?resLinkData=Battleship+Rugby+Tournamnet+Saint+Louis+Hornets%5Emobrv%60slhslhc%60109.00%60USD%60false%604%6011%2F10%2F17%6011%2F12%2F17%6010%2F8%2F17&app=resvlink&stop_mobi=yes Click link for our room block. Each room has two queen beds, so I assume many of you will be shacking up four or more to a room. Please coordinate if you are planning on sharing a room, only one of the occupants needs to reserve it. There is discussion of a charter bus if we can get numbers and commitment. This would be huge to have a bathroom on board for the long trip and drinking. Long story short we need to know your commitment to this tournament. Please email email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org with your plans and commitments. It's been a while since the Hornets have traveled to a tournament like this. Last year the actives went to Carbondale and won the All Fools Tournament. At Battleship it will be both the current squad and HOBO's playing and looks to be a hell of a time!!
The Stinger is upon us, Saturday May 20th.
Bounce houses, BBQ, BEER and new this year a Basketball hoop. CornHole, Washers---fun to be had by all---bring your wife/girlfriends and children (if any other relatives are unexpectedly in town--bring them too).
Alright, it's that time of the year again for our main annual fundraiser. I have attached the flyers for the First Annual Hornet Whiskey Tasting to be held at Modern Brewery on Saturday June 18th at Noon. Southtown will be catering food as well. We typically focus on only one or two fundraising opportunities a year to help support the finances of this club so please participate and sell this event! This is going to be our biggest fundraiser of the year that keeps this ship sailing, do it! Invite family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, etc. Share this on FB, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. Get the word out!
You can write a check, use PayPal on our website, pay with a card, but the easiest may be signing up and paying with Eventbrite. Here is the link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hornets-whiskey-tasting-at-modern-brewery-tickets-25137565134. Also, another extremely easy payment method would be to bring payment to the Stinger this weekend or the AGM next week.
See you there!
This year we will be having the tournament on June 13th at Sunset Hills golf course at 7:30 AM. Formal invite is to follow this week, but we are working on some big things fro this year. I challenge everyone on this list to become a "team captain" and bring out 3 non rugby guys to play with. For those of us who do not golf, come out and enjoy the food and drink. I will be making contact today with individuals who will be helping on the golf committee, but if you want to join please email me directly.
Mardi Gras season is upon us! Saturday February 14th 2015, from 8 am-7 pm we will be working BOOTH NUMBER 1, at 2151 South 11th Street.
We have a fantastic booth this year and if we can get a good showing can really cash in. Last year we had a tremendous showing of guys and gals who came out, had some fun, and raised some money. I look forward to the same showing as last year. I need Hornets to email me directly with what shift they can work, AM, PM, or both. Am is from 8-2, PM from 2-7. Yes, February 14th is Valentines Day, so bring your lady to help lol. It is also my birthday, so no excuses why you cant come out to help. Events like this make this club run, please find time to have a great time with friends. Volunteers drink free, so keep that in mind if you bring anyone around who wants to help out.
I am pleased to announce that this years Christmas party will be December 13th at Napoli in Clayton, 7754 Forsyth Blvd, St Louis, MO 63105. Cost is $45 per person, or $90 per couple. Attire is coat and tie, dress to impress and show that special lady in your life you own more than Hornet gear (Suda tuxedo is optional). Open bar and heavy apps the entire night from 6-9. Afterwards I'm sure we will take to the streets. PLEASE get your checks made payable to St.Louis Hornets RFC to Merrick or Toedebush. A great time to bring them would be to the AGM on November 12th at Southtown Pub. I need to have a head count, preferably by Thanksgiving. See you there!
Please see the invite from the Old Boys from Chuck below for Thanksgiving Eve at Humphrey's:
Please see the message below from Squiddy regarding Thanksgiving Eve:
All, once again it's time for our annual HOBO Thanksgiving eve Happy Hour. Those who can attend come on to Humphrey's anytime after 5pm on Wednesday, November 26. We do not have a HOBO account anymore but, some generous Old Boys are donating some $$ for us to have an open bar for a few hours. Stu, can you please let Jan know we are coming. I hope we see a lot of you and am really looking forward to seeing my Hornet brethren who usually go to Guns and Hoses!! Currents, you all are also welcome!!
Not in straight,
Join us in the Windy City for a once in a lifetime trip to see the New Zealand All Blacks play the USA Eagles at Soldier Field in Chicago, IL. The game is Saturday afternoon, but Hornets will be arriving Friday night or Saturday morning and hopefully returning on Sunday. If we can find everyone........... Please email the club for further details on transportation, housing, and tickets. Or by all means, book it yourself. See you there!
"I wanted to let you all know that I will be hosting the Stinger this year at my house. I'm sure that more info/details will follow.
I just wanted to tell you guys why. When I came out to the club approx '95/'96, the Stinger and the X-Mas party were hosted at a HOBO's home. Dan Young's house on Marmaduk with the pool, Haskins' place, the Farm in the Valley. Some of the X-Mas parties I remember were at Mick's or Bob Miller's place (I think...I drank to impress). The reason I bring this up is because I've always enjoyed the gatherings at someone's home versus a park or a venue like Pujols 5. The reason I enjoyed these more is my impression that the home setting always seemed to bring out more of the old boys, wives and children----which is what I hope happens again. It goes without saying that I hope to see all the actives.
I know the dates are no longer fixed in stone as they once were, but if everyone enjoys coming over to my family's place--maybe we can get back to scheduling a date for the STINGER that everyone can put on their yearly calendar for the foreseeable future. This is my first try, so I'm sure there will be hiccups. But whatever happens, show up with your wives/girlfriends, children or some random child that was recently determined to be a love child of Trotters. Also---bring a chair to park your ass.
Disclaimer: This was not meant as a bag on others' organizing events at parks or catered venues of years past. They kept the traditions alive!!
My address is:
3 Carole Lane

2 seconds from Hwy 40 and Spoede Rd.
See everyone soon!
Practice for the new Cup season will begin Wednesday, July 30th 2014 and will continue every Wednesday there after. We are still practicing at Monsignor Meyer CYC fields located at 4354 S. Kingshighway St. Louis, MO 63109. This is near Chippewa and Kingshighway across from St. Mary Magdalen parish and behind the National Guard building, from 7pm-9pm. There is another rugby team on the same field so be sure to ask for the Hornets or look for our Yellow/Black apparel.
Be booted up and ready to rumble by 7, there is usually some bump going on beforehand to get loosened up as well. Also, most importantly, be sure to allow some time after practice to enjoy a frosty beverage or two with your fellow Hornets, either at the practice fields or at our local club bars.
