Hornets Avoid Bad Weather…Obtain Good Result
The Hornets/Bombers/United side took the pitch late Saturday afternoon against a young and learning Rolla club. Although the experience of the United side proved too great, Rolla played hard the entire match, with their heads high and hard hits.
The game opened up with Nigel Goodall (8) scoring in the opening minutes as he continues to have a dominating season on the field. Moments later, Goodall broke tackle for a long run and popped kicked the ball just outside the 22 for a Bryan Carey (6) to collect at pace and put in for the score.
After some back and forth, the back line got into the action, when Pat Dalton (10) set up a dummy switch and laid out a pass for a speeding Paul (15) who bowled into the try zone. Later, Paul once again inserted himself into the back line and took a pass off Pat Dalton for a score. The rookie fullback was aggressive the entire match, wanted the ball and was rewarded for it.
To end the half, Aaron “PT” Lamper (9) recognized an opening on the weak side and took the ball with a supporting Ryan Wass (11). After committing the defender, PT was able to off load the ball to Wass for the score.
The second half was much like the first, with Nigel Goodall opening up the half with a try off a maul that marched down the pitch.
Later, Brian Saak (12) who was a mid-half replacement for his brother Kevin, supported the back line well and was able to loop the far side wing, Ryan Wass, for a catch and score. Wass got back in the action again, with a score down the far side line.
The game ended when Florida State was able to use quick hands to find a charging Jim Morrison (10-sub) for the final score of the game.
