Hornets-5, Royals-46Recap
A Royal Let Down….
The Hornets were riding high heading into the match up against the undefeated St. Louis Royals. The game was set for a beautiful Thursday evening under the stars.
The Royals jumped out to an early lead in the opening seconds with a quick score, catching the Hornets off-guard. However, the Hornets quickly recovered and played the majority of the first 40 in the Royals half, eventually converting a try by the veteran leader, Nigel Goodall (8). However, due to penalties and mental errors, the Hornets were not able to capitalize otherwise, and the half ended tied at 5.
It was clear as the teams switched sides that the Royals had wore down the Hornets. With multiple substitutions due to injury and fatigue early in the second half, the Royals were too much and began to run through the Hornets defense. The Royals proved the better team on this night scoring 8 trys and running away 46-5.
It was a great effort by the Royals and they proved they deserve the spot at Westerns this year. The Hornets wish them the best of luck and hope they represent St. Louis Rugby well!
