The Hornets continued their winning ways with trip to Rolla on St. Paddy’s Day, in what can only be described as Mud Bowl 2012! The Hornets traveled well this first away game of the season, with 20. There were several rookies looking to get some playing time and playing time they got. The weather looked promising traveling down, but that changed once warm-ups were done. A 40 minute rain/lightening delay saturated the pitch and leveled the playing field against a younger college side. The next 60 minutes were down in the mud, sludgefest for both sides. Billy Biggs scored the first of two trys of the game by providing good support and diving in for the try. The Miners answered with a try during the first half and maintained pressure on the Hornets during the first half.
The second half continued with great scrum work from the forwards and good phase ball, getting every inch of jersey covered in mud! These good phases allowed the back to become a threat during the second half and were able to produce strong runs Miles Criss, Brad Kasper, and Zach Hatraf. While traction was difficult to come by Saturday, rookie Ike, was able to maneuver nicely scoring another try and center the ball for an easy conversion. Conversions were nicely footed by rookie Zach Hatraf and veteran Paddy Dalton! The Hornets were able to come away victorious against a very good team.
A big Hooray to all the rookies that traveled down, Marty, Ike, Jason, Christian B, Kyle, Christian C, Jeff, Zach, Chris T, and Justin. Also, a special shout out to Chris Klaverkamp for donning the coaching responsibilities and doing a great job with this motley crew!
