The Hornets started the 64th Annual Ruggerfest against a well coached Jayhawks team. Conditions were less than favorable to start the day, with cool temperatures and rain throughout the morning. Ruggerfest provided the Hornets the opportunity to mix in all the rookies in with some of the veterans. For those not on the reserve list for the first game, still got a run in with other teams. Unfortunately, penalties once again plagued the Black & Gold and the Hornets were on the defensive most of the short halves. A tough loss against the Jayhawks was not the start the Hornets had hoped for, but provided the rookies good playing time. The second game of Saturday was against in-town rival the Royals. The Hornets came to play, but due to circumstances that occurred during this game, the match got out of control and the Hornets were never able to rally in the second half. Sunday provided an early game, but the out of town Iowa City team never showed for the match. The playing side took the opportunity to get a game of touch in before retiring to watch the ongoing matches and enjoy some beverages with the “family”.
